Chicken Cock’s new limited edition Beer Barrel Select follows six barrels as they hold bourbon, beer, and finally, a second bourbon.

Last year, the bourbon brand released just 12 barrels of their limited edition 10-Year Double Barrel Bourbon. When that second set of barrels was dumped, Chicken Cock gave six to their friends at Goodwood Brewing in Louisville, Kentucky. The brewery finished a Walnut Brown Ale in those same barrels, which were then returned to Chicken Cock to finish their new release.

The bourbon that finally went into these six bourbon-turned-beer barrels is a blend of 18-month to eleven-year-old Kentucky bourbon. This blend was aged another six months in the six barrels, non-chill filtered, and bottled to become Beer Barrel Select.

Chicken Cock offers tasting notes that describe the new release as “full-bodied, with initial notes of butterscotch, caramel, and vanilla, followed by a hint of toasted oak, and then a sweet finish with nut and chocolate flavors.”

Th press release also notes that the whiskey “retains the flavors and slight haze” of Goodwood’s Walnut Brown Ale. This isn’t the brewery’s first time finishing a bourbon in their barrels – they released their own earlier this year.

The new Chicken Cock release comes packaged in the prohibition-style decanter that the brand has used for several of it’s recent releases, including the Double Barrel Bourbon that was first aged in the barrels. The silver cap screws off to become a small tin cup for sipping your whiskey.

Only 1,800 bottles of Beer Barrel Select are shelves now for around $80.
