The 2019 Julep Shindig : A Weekend Living the Best of the Bourbon Lifestyle

If you’re looking to experience the best Bourbon Country has to offer, look no further than the 2019 Julep Shindig Experience – a weekend of Bourbon, horses, and southern culinary expressions.

Your Julep Shindig weekend begins Thursday, April 18th, when you check into the modern 21c Museum Hotel in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. After settling in, feel free to enjoy dinner on the town, perhaps at trendy Lockbox inside the hotel. Then head out to explore some of the best bourbon bars in the world, three of which are just a few minutes walk from 21c (we’re partial to Belle’s Cocktail House).

The next morning, rise and shine for coffee and donuts thickly frosted with bourbon icing in the lobby. We’ll whisk you off for a morning in Horse Country, starting with a private tour at Ashford Stud, home to horses like American Pharoah and Justify. Next we’ll head to Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky.

There, Bob Eidson & new Master Distiller Danny Kahn will host us for a private tour, tasting, and pairing. After getting an up close and personal look at the distilling process, Eidson & Kahn (previously the head brewer at Sierra Nevada) will guide us through a sensory-forward culinary tasting experience, matching 1792’s best whiskeys with with cheese, charcuterie, figs, and more.

Saturday only gets better. Our Julep Shindig party kicks off at 10 am, with live music, a variety Mint Juleps made by bartenders from all over, and of course, a southern breakfast spread you won’t want to miss. We’ll be brunching at Belle’s Cocktail House, where we’ll be raising our glasses to a day at the races on the most beautiful rooftop in Lexington. The Keeneland Betologist will join us for advice on how to bet at the track (we’re going to need it).

First post at the gorgeous Keeneland Racecourse is at 1 PM – so we’ll head there to grandstand seats, where we’ll sip on classic Keeneland Breeze Cocktails in our finest hats and bow ties while we bet on our favorite horses. After a Saturday night on the town, you’ll feel more at home than ever in Kentucky.

This weekend will give you first-hand experience with the Bourbon Lifestyle – tasting, pairing, crafting cocktails, and enjoying the best that Bourbon Country has to offer. Let us be your guides!
