Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is celebrating 10 years of distilling with their oldest bottling yet. While their Rabble Rouser Rye is an annual favorite, this will be its first year bearing the bottled-in-bond distinction.
Bottled-in-bond whiskies must meet a handful of criteria to earn the label. Notably, they must be at least 4 years old and bottled at 100 proof. Rabble Rouser is a 100% rye whiskey, and at 4 years is the oldest release Catoctin Creek has seen.
“This is a rye whisky that is near and dear to our hearts,” said Catoctin Creek founder and chief distiller Becky Harris. “We started distilling this whisky as a small research and development project, and it has become one of our most sought-after whisky offerings. It’s the perfect product to celebrate our tenth year in operation.”
The distillery describes Rabble Rouser as having an “extensive flavor profile that includes nectarines, clover honey, deep earthy spice, forest, sandalwood, uncured bacon, white peaches, peanuts and a hint of mesquite.”
“We distill the 100% rye mash to a lower proof, which captures a lot of extra flavors typically lost to the pot stills,” said founder and general manager Scott Harris. “The tasting notes provide a rustic profile that pays homage to the history that rye whisky played in the state of Virginia.”
As tasty as it sounds, we’ve got a few months to wait before it arrives. It’s expected on shelves in limited quantities in February 2019 and will cost $95 for a 750ml bottle.
