Azur restaurant is located a short drive south of downtown in Beaumont Centre located at the intersection of Harrodsburg Road (U.S. 68) and New Circle Road (KY 4). The restaurant offers what co-owner Fred Wohlstein calls “upscale-casual-fine-dining.”
The menu offers a wide variety of fine cuisine including duck, Alltech Angus beef, salmon, tuna and lamb.
“We strive to cater to the refined palate,” Fred explains, “and we want to do that in a casual non-stuffy manner.”
A good proportion of the ingredients the restaurant uses fall into the “Kentucky Proud” category.
“That’s a big part of our concept,” Fred says. “We place a heavy emphasis on supporting and serving local products.”
That can be seen as well in the manner in which Azur incorporates bourbon into its day-to-day operations.
“We have about 25 bourbons on hand, and feature a different one each day at a special price,” Fred explains. “We offer what we call an Azur-bourbon flight, which is essentially bourbon in a wine flight and we offer those in a four-bourbon sampler.”
Azur has also done several bourbon-themed dinners including a “virtual bourbon trail dinner” with Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Chris Morris.
“We try to engage those who come to the restaurant to check out the Bourbon Trail,” Fred says. “We really make an effort to showcase bourbon here at Azur. We do that through tastings and dinners as well as making a mention on our menu of the bourbons that come from the Trail.”
Azur also features live music Friday and Saturday nights on their 2,500 square foot patio.
